You might think that out of all the technological wonders featured in the Back to the Future franchise it would be the functional time machine that caused the most envy, but no, it seems that what the internet wants the most from the world of tomorrow is a pair of self lacing trainers.

At least, this certainly seems to be the case judging by the reaction to an off the cuff comment made by Nike designer Tinker Hatfield. As reported by specialist site Sole Collector, Hatfield was quizzed on the topic during a press conference in New Orleans:

“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!” said Hatfield, sparking a flurry of online speculation, but as of the time of writing no confirmation from Nike.

Despite this, it’s not impossible that Nike will make power laces happen next year. For a start, the timing would fit (the high tops or Nike Mags first appeared in Back to the Future II the year 2015) and Nike even patented its own “automatic lacing system” back in 2010.

The sportswear company actually manufactured the trainers for a charity auction back in 2011. Although they lacked the crucial power laces 1,500 pairs of the trainer were auctioned with the proceeds ($6 million, an average price of $4,000 per pair) going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Enthusiastic fans have even tried to recreate the technology, with San Francisco based tinkerer Blake Bevin successfully funding a Kickstarter project for the shoes back in in 2010 after posting her designs on tech orientated DIY site Instructables.

Bevin’s designs use an Arduino microcontroller and a pressure sensor in the sole to detect when the trainer is being worn before tightening the laces with a pair of servo motors. Although it’s been more than three years since Bevin’s designs were first uploaded online, a recent post from her Twitter confirms that her company is “looking to release this year”.

One way or another then it seems that power laces are coming and, as Bevin’s original Kickstarter campaign originally noted, they wouldn’t just be a vanity gadget self lacing shoes could also help individuals with motor disabilities. Compared to a hover board (Back to the Future’s other iconic invention) that’s both more useful and more likely to appear.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the debut of Nike’s self lacing sneakers. But they’re not going to be cheap. Nike revealed the price of its first self lacing athletic shoe, the HyperAdapt 1.0 a whopping $720.

The sneaker will be available in two NYC stores on Dec. 1: Nike’s Soho location and at the Nike+ ClubHouse.

Customers can book appointments there to try them on, or wait until later in December, when the sneakers are available at other stores and via the Nike+ app.

Select Nike+ app users will get early access to purchase the shoe on Nov. 28 for a limited time.

The black/white blue lagoon color scheme will be available on Dec. 1 and a metallic silver/black white sneaker will roll out later in the month.

The Nike HyperAdapt is the first self lacing athletic shoe that Nike has released to the general public.

It’s different from the Nike Mag, which is a replica of the self lacing shoes worn by Marty McFly in “Back to the Future.” Only 89 pairs of the Nike Mag were made available to fans via lottery.

The HyperAdapt sneakers will be lightweight and rechargeable. The self lacing mechanism of the shoe works more like automatic buckling the way snow boots or roller blades tighten.

“When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it’s perfect,” said Nike senior innovator Tiffany Beers.

Nike is set to release self tying shoes, like those from Back To The Future Part 2, in 2015. They should be ready by the end of the year, which is when the 1989 futuristic time travel film was set.

The company is hoping to release the Nike MAG shoes at some point in 2015, according to Nice Kicks. The company’s designer, Tinker Hatfield, said that Nike was still working hard to deliver the shoes.

But the company has filed for patents on the shoes, which show a button on the side to activate the Power Laces. Much of the machinery to allow the shoes to tie themselves up is built into the bottom, using a series of wheels and motors.

The shoes also have a built in weight sensor which some have speculated could give it compatibility with hoverboards.

Hatfield seemed to announce the shoes last February, telling a press conference in New Orleans: “Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that,

Nike has actually made the MAG high tops before though without the crucial self tying laces. They were auctioned with the proceeds ($6 million, or an average of $4,000 per pair) going to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Tinker talks Nike MAG 2015 release with Power Laces at AgendaEmerge. Fans launched a successful Kickstarter project to launch a version of the shoes in 2010, noting that the shoes could be useful as well as exciting.

Back To The Future: Part II also predicted hoverboards and flying cars and while, like the trainers, neither have been released, both are being worked on.

Jeremy Corbyn is targeting 18 seats held by the SNP in his bid to win the keys to Downing Street.

The Labour leader will tour key marginal seats in Scotland next month as he continues to prepare for the possibility of another election.

The party stunned observers in last month’s general election by winning six seats from the SNP and slashing the nationalists’ majority in constituencies across the country.

Strategists believe they could pick up several more Scottish seats in a future election.

Boris Johnson and Michael Gove branded ‘deranged and dangerous’ as Prime Minister prepares to read riot act in Tory civil warCorbyn will visit seats across the central belt and further afield, including the Western Isles, where sitting SNP MPs have small majorities.

Of the 64 seats Labour needs to win to secure a majority at Westminster, 18 are in Scotland.

This includes Glasgow South West, Glasgow East, Airdrie and Shotts, Lanark and Hamilton East, Motherwell and Wishaw, Inverclyde and Dunfermline and West Fife where swings of less than 1 per cent are required.

Corbyn said: “Under Labour, Scotland will have a government that works for the many not the few.

“Labour remains on an election footing as a government in waiting, ready to end failed austerity and ensure Scotland has the resources it needs to provide the public services its people deserve.

“Labour has the policies to build a fairer Scotland, with a minimum wage, a ban on zero hour contracts, a Brexit deal that puts jobs first, and taxing big corporations and the richest individuals a bit more to fund our schools, hospitals, emergency services and social care.

“I want to live in a country that nurtures the next generation and gives our elderly the security and dignity they deserve after a lifetime of contribution to our society.

“Unlike the SNP and the Tories, Labour will transform our economy through investment, insisting the true wealth creators that means all of us benefit from it.

Tories to force people born after 1970 to work until 68 under new pension laws”The only way to remove the Conservatives from Downing Street, and have a government that works for the many, not the few, is to back Labour in Scotland.”

Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale added: “After more than a decade in power in Scotland, the SNP is presiding over a struggling economy, while schools have thousands of fewer teachers, and NHS workers are under valued and over stretched.

“And the SNP can’t remove the Tories from office only Labour can do that. I look forward to joining Jeremy in August as we take our message to the people of Scotland.”

“Because for every one of those people there is a ripple effect in our families and our communities.”

Ardern re committed to reviewing mental health services if in Government, and said she wanted mental health teams in every secondary school in the country.

black adidas jacket Labour and Greens gain in Norwich City Council elections

It was a long night for the candidates and activists, because the AV referendum slips had to be verified before the counting of the local election papers could begin, even though he AV count will not take place until this afternoon.

A third of the seats were up for grabs and the Greens were delighted with their showing, after they took Thorpe Hamlet from the Lib Dems and saw off the challenge of Labour in Wensum and Mancroft.

The win in Thorpe Hamlet, which means the Greens, the opposition party at City Hall. now hold all three seats in the ward, was particularly sweet for the party, as in the 2007 election they lost out to Lib Dem Jeremy Hooke by a single vote.

But this time former Lord Mayor Mr Hooke came unstuck, slipping down to fourth place as Jo Henderson won the seat for the Greens with a majority of 575 over second placed Labour candidate Michael Stonard.

Labour had hoped to take Wensum and Mancroft from the Greens, where sitting councillors Rupert Read and current Lord Mayor Tom Dylan, were not standing.

However, Green candidate Amy Stammers saw off the challenge of Labour’s Marion Maxwell in Mancroft by 263 votes and Lucy Galvin garnered 1,375 Green votes to the 1,208 Vaughan Thomas got for Labour to hold onto Wensum.

Labour, did, however,
adidas rasta Labour and Greens gain in Norwich City Council elections
make gains in Catton Grove and Bowthorpe, both at the expense of the Conservatives.

In Catton Grove, former Lord Mayor Eve Collishaw’s 922 votes were not enough to see her keep her seat, with Labour’s Paul Kendrick tallying 1,152.

And in Bowthorpe, the 1,053 votes obtained by Andrew Wiltshire, Conservative group leader at City Hall, were eclipsed by the 1,381 who voted for Labour’s Mike Sands the husband of Sewell city councillor Sue Sands.

It was the second time in a matter of months that a Conservative group leader had been defeated in Bowthorpe.

Last September Antony Little was beaten by Labour’s Jo Storie and once again the Conservatives are left having to pick a new group leader.

On a tough night for the Lib Dems, they were relieved to hang onto Eaton ward, with Caroline Ackroyd holding the seat with a majority of 129.

The Conservatives had pushed hard in the ward, but Chris Groves was unable to take the seat which Ros Wright, wife of Norwich South MP Simon, had previously occupied before her decision not to stand this time around.

The question now is who will be the leader at City Hall?

Former council leader Steve Morphew did not stand in these elections, having decided to step down after 15 years as a councillor.

adidas tiro pants Lab encourages residents to take up beekeeping

While Researchers at the Honey Bee Research Lab at Arizona State University’s Polytechnic Campus are always looking for new and innovative ways to save declining honey bee populations, they are also focused on much simpler local solutions to the problem.

“There should be some programs to support local beekeeping to make sure they have pollinators in the area,” lab project manager Osman Kaftanoglu said.

Kaftanoglu said childhood education plays an important role in preserving honey bee populations into the future. He encourages beekeepers and local schools to provide programs to teach children the importance of pollinators and the value of beekeeping.

Beyond those educational programs, Kaftanoglu also said that local residents can help maintain bee populations by raising colonies in their backyards.

He stressed that proper preparation and education is important for any would be apiarist who plans to start beekeeping at home. Local residents interested in beekeeping should also be aware of local laws regulating the practice.

“Right now, keeping bees in many states in backyards is not allowed because of Africanized bees,” Kaftanoglu said.

There are no state statutes in Arizona that prevent residents from keeping bees, though local ordinances can vary across the state, Arizona Department of Agriculture Director Mark W. Killian said via email.

Killian added that his department is working with a number of groups and individuals to find solutions to the death and loss of bees.

In the East Valley, Mesa,
adidas spezial shoes Lab encourages residents to take up beekeeping
Chandler and Tempe all have regulations within their respective municipal codes aimed at preventing insect infestations. However, those codes also include other language that permits beekeeping under appropriate conditions.

Mesa’s Zoning Ordinance specifically allows for raising bee hives also called apiaries in the Agriculture District and states that “buildings or hives for apiaries may not be closer than 75 feet to any neighboring residence.”

In Chandler, having some bees on a residential property in Chandler is not prohibited unless they become a nuisance or a commercial enterprise, Chandler Planning Administrator Jeff Kurtz said via email.

Tempe requires residents to receive a use permit prior to keeping an apiary. The city also requires occupied bee hives to be kept at least 200 feet from any existing dwelling on another property, at least 50 feet away from any property line, and at least 150 feet away from any street or bridle path.

In Gilbert, the land development code allows for the apiaries in the Single Family Residential Zoning Districts with the stipulation that hives must be located at least 100 feet away from the property line.

Killian said one problem faced by many beekeepers is the encroachment of Africanized bees, adding that the Department of Agriculture has resources to help amateur beekeepers fight that and other issues.

“My own personal opinion is that we need to encourage those home owners who want to have their own beehive in their back yard to do so,” Killian said. “The more honey bees we can get into production,

the better off we are for our plants both ornamental and crop production.”
