“I may have expected a 10 or 15 minute delay but not something like this,” he said. “I have lived here for 26 years and never seen traffic like this. It is bad for businesses and bad for morale.
“I witnessed so much frustration and people were going crazy as they were just not moving, somebody needs to be accountable for this.”
On Tuesday people had complained of long queues on Barn Road, Barrack Street and Westwick Street.
A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: “UK Power Networks engineers are working as quickly and safely as possible, to complete essential repair work on an underground cable in St Andrew’s Street,
Norwich. We appreciate the impact this is having, and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
“Four way traffic lights are in use at the junction of Exchange Street, and we are using manual controls from 7am to 7pm to help traffic flow.
“Unfortunately excavation work was unavoidably delayed by engineering issues, and other circumstances beyond our control, so our permit has been extended to the end of next week if needed.
